I have already shared with you a few decoupage projects I have done, but my love affair with decoupaging began a very long time ago.
In craft classes at school 28 years ago in fact! That was when I was introduced to the craft, and began decoupaging everything in sight!! I still have a few of my earliest projects:
The lid on this box has clearly got darker over time because the varnish used wasn’t a clear non-yellowing one. Back then Mod Podge was unheard of (I don’t even know if it existed?)
Both of these projects were decorated with old (some Victorian) scraps that I was given by my mother. She had collected them as a child, many given to her by relatives, so in a sense these are heirloom pieces now!
This one was decorated with black and white images of famous artists, with a bit of gold leaf for good measure!
If I look around my house there are decoupaged items everywhere, from trays and boxes to items of furniture!
My bedside cupboard.
My Do Not Disturb sign on the bedroom door.
These are some placemats I did about 10 years ago, and they’re still going strong.
Everywhere I look there is a tray or vase or box or tin or something I have embellished with paper and glue!
The love affair never ends.
I will take you through a decoupage project step by step in a future post, for those of you who have yet to discover the joy!
