Fabric Decoupaged Placemats

A few months ago I picked up these MDF placemats in an op shop, and I’ve been wondering what to do with them.

Then a stash of fabrics fell out of the cupboard when I opened it (I really do have too much fabric), and I thought “aha! I will use these pretty fabrics for those placemats!”

Starting with some white glue and a brush, I covered the placemats, then smoothed the fabric over it. This is a messy job, as the glue comes through the porous fabric!

Then a coat of outdoor mod podge thinned with a little water over the top of the fabric.

Once that dries, it’s time to trim the edges and glue them down on the back.

Once the edges were glued down and dry, I gave the placemats a couple of coats of clear acrylic gloss.

They’ve come up well, and are durable enough to stand up to quite a bit of heat.

I love them with my pretty blue and white……
