Knitted Floor Rug

This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, make a floor rug for the library. It was time consuming, but couldn’t have been simpler.

Starting with good old fashioned French knitting, using up various odds and ends of wool.

As I was mainly using 8 ply, I decided to use double wool to keep the cord thick and tight.

As the cord grew it began to get in my way, so I started coiling and sewing together the rug long before I’d finished the cord.

Using a basic blanket stitch around the cords and an extra stitch at the back to join coils together.

Nefertiti was of great assistance during this process.

It took several weeks but eventually I decided it was large enough!

Neffy clearly approves!

Frodo thinks it’s a rug for dancing on!
