I inherited this gorgeous cedar bookcase from my grandparents when I first moved out of home.
The backboard is not, however cedar. It is Masonite, and was almost certainly nailed onto the bookcase just to make it more functional well after it was originally made. It’s always bothered me but I never knew quite what to do with it. Until I had the brainwave to just paint the damn thing!!!
The shelves slide out, and with a drop cloth and a bit of tape it was ready to paint with zero preparation required.
I chose this deep teal colour (Dulux “Mallard Green”), and a couple of hours and two coats later I was ready to put everything back! Which of course gave me the opportunity for a bit of a re-style!
It looks so much better, I can’t believe I didn’t do this years ago!
